1.1 Outline and describe anatomical, physiological, biochemical and developmental features of head & neck, different techniques of pain control, and principles of surgery.

1.2 List and define common diseases in terms of pathophysiology, microbiology & immunology along with relevant diagnostic methods in order to deal with patients including medically compromised subjects and medical emergencies in dental clinic.

1.3 Name and outline the lesions of hard and soft tissues of tooth, fundamentals of tooth  preparation and properties of different restorative materials.

1.4 Memorize and recall the clinical and radiographic features for normal periodontium and various periodontal diseases along with relevant etiopathogenesis, diagnostic criteria and principles of management.

1.5 Recognize and describe abnormal development of skeletal pattern of head and neck and occlusion utilizing diagnostic aids.

1.6 Outline and reproduce the diagnostic steps and treatment options to replace missing teeth for partially/completely edentulous patients to enhance esthetics and function.

On completion of program the graduate will be able to:

2.1 Interpret and correlate clinical, radiographic and laboratory findings of dental patients in order to design a comprehensive treatment plan.

2.2 Analyse the amount of remaining tooth structure and to restore the teeth with appropriate materials and techniques.

2.3 Differentiate between various root canal morphologies and pathologies in order to select justified instrumentation and obturation techniques.

2.4 Measure and predict oral diseases in a community utilizing dental indices in order to plan oral health programs.

On completion of the program the graduate will be able to

3.1 Demonstrate the ability to modulate the behaviour of dental patients with special emphasis on paediatric and geriatric cases in order to carryout dental procedures successfully.

3.2 Interact efficiently and ethically with the professional colleagues and the patients at clinical and community level by evaluating the barriers within and across societies to deliver dental care nationally and internationally.

On completion of the program the graduate will be able to:

4.1 Demonstrate the operation of advanced dental equipments, employ computer based technology and multimedia in order to improve the learning process beyond class room.

4.2 Critically evaluate published literature related to oral diseases in the community in order to propagate the concepts of disease prevention & management

5. Psychomotor Skills

On completion of the program the graduate will be able to:

5.1 Perform oral clinical examination, intraoral periapical and bitewing radiographic procedures in order to diagnose dental diseases and to plan treatment accordingly.

5.2 Demonstrate the extraction procedure of an erupted tooth under local anaesthesia considering medical status of the patient, in addition to the management of medical/dental complications.

5.3 Illustrate the fundamental steps in the tooth preparation techniques and manipulation methods for different restorative and endodontic materials for effective management of patients

5.4 Illustrate oral prophylactic procedures including scaling/root planing by manual and/or ultrasonic methods in order to manage patients with gingival & periodontal diseases.

5.5 Perform comprehensive dental treatment including restorative procedures, pulp therapy, preventive, interceptive and corrective orthodontics in children and adolescents in order to restore function and facilitate normal eruption of permanent teeth.

5.6 Illustrate steps in tooth preparation, making impressions, provisional restorations and definitive prostheses to restore function, esthetics and maintain integrity of the dental arch.

Students will be gain fundamental basics of the dental subjects .They will be introduced to the different dental specialties and get a solid foundation for the future clinical dental courses. A range of subjects will be taught including Oral Biology, Dental Morphology, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Radiology.

This branch of dentistry deals with conservation of the tooth structure , thus helping to preserve the natural dentition of the patient. The treatment modalities rendered include restorative procedures for carious teeth and other defects of the teeth like fracture, erosion, and abrasion . Endodontic treatment is rendered in teeth having pulpal diseases. Courses are taught at both preclinical and clinical levels.

The courses in preventive dental sciences primarily deal with the concepts, principles, and methods of preventing dental diseases with emphasis on primary preventive measures. Courses covered will include Pediatric dentistry, Orthodontics, Dental Ethics and Public Health Dentistry.

Students are trained in minor exodontia and oral surgery procedures including the removal of teeth buried in bone , diagnostic techniques and therapy for acute and chronic diseases of the oro-facial region. Student will also be trained in replacing missing teeth with removable or fixed prosthesis . The departments of Oral Surgery and Prosthodontics are involved in delivering the courses.
